Big Ten Conference Joins Coaches’ Mentoring Challenge

Tuesday, August 04, 2015 - The Big Ten Conference is joining MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership and local nonprofit partners across the country to launch the Coaches’ Mentoring Challenge – an effort to connect young people with caring adult mentors. Through this effort, Big Ten football coaches at the conference’s 14 universities will encourage fans to support the next generation of students and alumni by becoming a mentor to a young person.

MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership Statement on the America’s FOCUS Act

Thursday, March 19, 2015 - This week, bipartisan Representatives Chaka Fattah and Mike Fitzpatrick, both representing the state of Pennsylvania, reintroduced the America’s FOCUS Act (H.R. 1360). Under the FOCUS Act, fines collected from corporations found guilty of civil and criminal wrongdoing by the federal government would be distributed evenly among three critical areas: STEM education and youth mentoring; innovations in medical research and development; and, justice reinvestment efforts. MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership (MENTOR) will recognize select corporations for their outstanding contributions to advancing quality mentoring opportunities for young people during the 2015 National Mentoring Summit, the signature annual gathering for the mentoring movement to be held in Washington D.C. January 28-30, 2015. The Corporate Mentoring Challenge, originally launched by First Lady Michelle Obama at the 2011 National Mentoring Summit, is open to private-sector companies of any size that pledge to begin supporting youth mentoring in the U.S. in the coming year, expand an existing initiative or renew a commitment. Companies currently engaged in youth mentoring may submit the details of their programs to be considered for special honors. Applications will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. EDT on October 7, 2014.
