David Shapiro honored by Boston Partners in Education

Monday, May 14, 2012 - MENTOR’s President and CEO David Shapiro will be honored this week at the Boston Partners in Education eighth annual Big Cheese Reads Gala, a fund-raising event enabling Boston Partners to enrich the lives of local students by inspiring them to develop the skills and confidence necessary for academic achievement, personal growth and responsible citizenship.

Boston Partners in Education helps local public school students who are struggling to succeed academically. The organization recruits, screens and trains volunteers who are matched with either one student or a small group of students. Each year, thousands of Boston students are matched with an academic mentor.

“We are thrilled to be honoring David,” said Boston Partners’ Executive Director Pamela Civins. “The work he has done with Boston Partners in Education via Mass Mentoring Partnership and MENTOR shows he is dedicated to ensuring our youth have mentors in their lives.”

“As the CEO of MENTOR, he understands the great value in getting community members involved with our young people, not only outside of school but also inside city classrooms. Since I have known him, he has put a spotlight on volunteerism and mentoring in the city of Boston, and he has brought together like minded organizations so that we all do our work better.”

“His contributions have been invaluable as he not only runs organizations that support mentoring; he acts as a mentor for others, both young people in the community and also his colleagues. We believe that he, personally and professionally, has the same high expectations and high hopes for all of Boston’s youth. Our gala is the perfect venue to recognize all that he contributes,” Civins said.
