In Memoriam: Senator Arlen Specter
On behalf of the youth mentoring field, we express our sadness over the loss of Senator Arlen Specter and honor his extraordinary life of public service. Senator Specter was a tireless advocate for the importance of mentoring across the United States and was a lead sponsor on both the Child Protection Improvements Act and the Mentoring for All Act.
The Mentoring Partnership of Southwestern Pennsylvania stated that "during Senator Specter's time as Pennsylvania's longest-serving senator, he was a staunch advocate for mentoring and saw it as a valuable intervention to support youth and reduce youth violence."
MENTOR extends sympathy to Senator Specter's loved ones and we honor his leadership in supporting quality youth mentoring by continuing the quest to advance mentoring so that young people are able to find successful pathways to adulthood.
