A Public Private Ventures study shows:

    Mentees are 46% less likely to start using illegal drugs than their peers and 27% less likely to start drinking

    Mentees are 52% less likely than their peers to skip a day of school and 37% less likely to skip a class

    Mentees are more trusting of their parents or guardians, less likely to lie to them, and felt more supported and less criticized by their peers

A Proctor & Gamble study on their mentoring programs in Cincinnati schools found that the 133 young people were more likely to:

Stay in School
Not one student with a mentor dropped out of school; average daily attendance was higher

Achieve and Aspire to Better Grades
Grade point average was almost half a unit higher for young people with mentors

Go to College
86% of the students from the senior class went on to college. Typically only 25-30% of students from these schools go on to college

An Allstate mentoring program reports that of the mentees:

    93% tried harder 81% improved their grades

    93% improved their attitude about school

    96% had an improved self-concept

    75% had an increased desired to stay in school
