National Mentoring Month has been celebrated annually, since its inception in 2001. National Mentoring Month is an effort spearheaded by the Harvard Mentoring Project, MENTOR/National Mentoring Partnership and the Corporation for National and Community Service. MENTOR's Co-Founders are Mr. Geoffrey T. Boisi, Chairman and Senior Partner of Roundtable Investment Partners LLC, and Mr. Raymond G. Chambers, Founder of the Amelior Foundation. Mr. Boisi currently serves as Chairman of MENTOR. Alan D. Schwartz, President and Chief Operating Officer, of Bear, Stearns & Co is New York's Liaison to the National Board.
National Mentoring Month is a coalition of non-profit organizations that have developed a major national initiative, in collaboration with the leading broadcast networks, to create an annual, concentrated burst of national and local media activity combined with extensive community outreach during the month of January.
There are nearly 15 million young Americans in need or want of a mentor. The purpose of National Mentoring Month is to thank mentors for making a difference in the lives of their mentees and to put a face to mentoring in an effort to recruit additional volunteers who are needed by millions of our youth.
Mentors’ Day is open only to mentor/mentee pairs that are a part of MPNY participating programs.
