2012 Summit Overview

The second annual National Mentoring Summit will build on the overwhelming success of the inaugural Summit of 2011. MENTOR, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the Harvard School of Public Health, the U.S. Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and United Way Worldwide will once again bring together major youth mentoring organizations, along with government, civic, research and corporate leaders, to evaluate best practices, review new research, chart the field’s future and fundamentally ensure that more youth receive quality mentoring.

The theme for the 2012 National Mentoring Summit is Invest in the Future: Mentor a Child, which captures the long-term benefits for young people, their mentors and their communities that an investment in quality mentoring can offer.

The 2012 Summit will include:

  • An update on the Corporate Mentoring Challenge issued by the First Lady.
  • An update on The Center for Evidence-Based Mentoring, a partnership between the University of Massachusetts- Boston and MENTOR, announced at the 2011 Summit.
  • A keynote address by a champion of mentoring.
  • Presentation of the Mentor of the Year award.
  • The latest trends and analysis on mentoring presented by the field’s premier researchers.
  • Ninety-minute workshops highlighting: examples of best-practices programs; cutting-edge training tools and resources; innovations in financial sustainability and funding opportunities; collaborative partnerships, including corporate/community engagement; faith-based perspectives; and advocacy and organizing.
  • An evening reception held at the International Spy Museum on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 for all summit registrants
