Research and Policy Council

The Research and Policy Council was launched in Boston on September 26 and 27, 2006 under the leadership of Dr. Jean Rhodes, one of mentoring’s leading researchers, and Dave Van Patten of Dare Mighty Things. Members include over twenty leading researchers, practitioners and policymakers in the mentoring field.

The Council addresses one of 21 key recommendations of the National Agenda for Action: How to Close the Mentoring Gap. Its mission is to promote greater exchange among practitioners, policymakers and researchers in order to strengthen the practice of youth mentoring. By conducting mentoring research and sharing the results through user-friendly materials, the Council aims to inform and shape both policy debates and practice. One of the Council’s first efforts will involve creating a “research for action” series for mentoring practitioners – sponsored by the MetLife Foundation – based on new and existing “Research Corner” articles.
