Virginia Mentoring Partnership (VMP) provides training and technical assistance to new and developing mentor/tutor programs for children and youth across the state of Virginia.

I. Training Services

1. We provide twelve different types of Orientation Sessions. Four primary sessions are:
• Mentor Training: Orientation to Mentoring & Volunteering with Youth
• School Volunteer Training
• Tutor Training: Elements of Effective Tutoring
• Mentor Follow-Up & Support

2. VMP develops curriculum for Special Projects:
Examples of projects include:
• The Carver Promise (created a Tutor manual for Math and English SOL’s for third and fifth grade classes)
• Youth Matters (provided technical assistance& training for ARCH reading tutors)
• Communities in Schools of Richmond (designed a tutoring curriculum and provided training for the “Superstars” program)
• University of Richmond Women’s Basketball & Soccer Teams (provided program development and training for the “I Can” & “Dream Team” programs)
• Capital One “Power of 9” Mentoring Program (provided development, training and technical assistance)

II. Technical Assistance

We provide consulting on:
• Design of volunteer mentor & tutor programs
• Implementation of programs
• “Nuts & Bolts of An Effective Mentoring Program” & General Mentoring Best Practices
• Screening & Background checks (use policy of NMP)
• Program Evaluation

III. Clearinghouse

We act as a referral for incoming calls from:
• Individuals interested in becoming a mentor
• Individuals interested in placing their child in a mentor program
• Groups interested in collaborating with existing mentoring programs

IV. Annual Summit/Statewide Awards Event, Quarterly Newsletters & Email Updates

We communicate regularly with and host events for:
• Client list of over 500 mentoring/tutoring programs across the Commonwealth.

V. Virginia Mentoring Advocacy Network (VMAN) and Statewide Mentoring Policy Summit

We facilitate and coordinate a network of over 150 individuals in an effort to:
• Prioritize the issues of concern for the mentoring field;
• Develop a cohesive, effective public policy agenda for the mentoring field; and
• Implement that agenda at the federal and state levels.
