What is National Mentoring Month?
A coalition of nonprofit organizations have teamed up with leading communications companies to promote National Mentoring Month -- an annual, concentrated burst of national and local media activity combined with community outreach.
The goals of National Mentoring Month are to:
-- Raise awareness of mentoring in its various forms
-- Recruit individuals to mentor, especially in programs that have a waiting list of young people
-- Promote the rapid growth of mentoring by recruiting organizations
-- companies, faith communities, schools and community groups
-- to encourage their constituents to become mentors to young people.
As part of National Mentoring Month, in January, VMP celebrates outstanding volunteer mentors and mentoring programs that are changing the lives of Virginia's young people. We will continue this tradition of honoring mentors at the Sixth Annual Statewide Mentoring Awards & Conference, on January 30, 2008 at The Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, Virginia.
The Awards Luncheon will be followed by the 2008 Mentoring Conference. Check back soon for more details on the conference workshops and schedule!
