Police Gang Unit Provides Outreach to Break Down Barriers
December 2014
When the gang unit in Worcester, MA noticed a rise in violence, they began a mentoring program to provide adult guidance and support in an effort to break down barriers and gain trust from at-risk youth – and ultimately keep their communities safe. 15 years later, over 75 youth are involved in Worcester Police Gang Unit mentoring and outreach programs learning discipline, communication and teamwork. This program exemplifies how the mentoring effect helps prevent illegal activity.
