After a lively voting period, Chelsy Spencer, mentor with Hour Children in Long Island, New York, has been named the winner in Cabot Creamery Cooperative & MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership’s mentoring story contest. Spencer received 476 votes, with over 813 votes submitted for the three finalists during the contest. Spencer is in a six-year mentoring relationship with her mentee, Theresa (pictured, left). Nearly 90 mentors from over 30 states were nominated in the contest.
Spencer will be honored with an all-expense paid, eight-day, seven-night Caribbean cruise, taking place this November with over 50 other volunteers selected by a range of nonprofit groups. The cruise will feature workshops and seminars that will help them to strengthen their volunteer onhealthy fosamax efforts, provide the ability to share tips and tactics with peers and the opportunity to enjoy unforgettable activities, dining and entertainment.
Spencer had a few words to share when selected as the contest winner: “Again, thank you so much for this opportunity. I am so fortunate to have been matched with Theresa. [Hour Children] is truly an amazing organization that I can’t say enough about. Theresa is a huge part of my life and I’m so grateful to be able to mentor such a wonderful young woman. Having six years of memories is amazing, I know we will be friends for life!”
Our congratulations to Chelsy Spencer and our gratitude to everyone who nominated a deserving mentor!
