Recognizing Corporations Across the Country Dedicating Outstanding Support for the Youth Mentoring Movement

April 4, 2023 – MENTOR, the unifying champion for the mentoring movement, released its 2023 National Corporate Mentoring Honor Roll today. This list recognizes those American corporations that offer support of and investment in mentoring opportunities to spur young peoples’ personal and professional growth. Launched by First Lady Michelle Obama in 2011, the Honor Roll challenges companies to support their employees in becoming volunteer youth mentors. Since the Honor Roll’s inception, corporate engagement in youth mentoring has grown to reflect a range of innovations and strategies. These developments drive equity, connect young people to socio-economic opportunities, and ultimately build a diverse, dynamic, and inclusive 21st century workforce.

“By creating supportive environments in workplaces and the communities they serve, these 88 companies provide substantial opportunity for young people across the United States,” said Jeronima Nix, MENTOR’s Director of Workplace Mentoring. “Whether through financial investment, the energies of employees, or partnerships with other youth-serving organizations, these organizations’ efforts offer mutually beneficial results. Young people receive direction in their careers and networking opportunities, while employers enjoy increased retention and an interconnected workforce. With such employers embracing mentoring in their respective cultures, America’s youth will grow into their workplaces, confident in their employer’s commitment to authentic connection.”

Indeed, Honor Roll companies prioritize mentoring when connecting youth with social-economic opportunities and building and retaining a strong workforce. By driving skilled volunteer mentors to mentoring programs, the corporate sector is providing young people with the social capital needed to succeed at home, school, and work. MENTOR works with corporations and businesses across the US, teaching employers of all types to offer robust mentoring experiences to youth while they are in the K–12 schools and as young adults entering the workforce. Every supervisor and employee who works alongside a young person in a workplace can be a potential mentor with the right training and a mindset that understands the value of helping young workers find their path. As noted in MENTOR’s new Who Mentored You? study, focused efforts by more companies can help improve the contribution of mentoring to upward socioeconomic mobility. Increased mentoring investment also represents a win for employers, as they benefit from the improved talent pipelines, happier and more skilled workers, and increased staff diversity that helps a business thrive.
