Summit Sponsor Spotlight: AT&T

Corporate Engagement, National Mentoring Summit

A mentor’s impact on a young person’s life can be immeasurable – they provide guidance, encouragement and a sense of togetherness. Yet today, 1 in 3 young people will grow up without a mentor. And for those who do have a mentor, COVID-19 has forced many of those relationships to hit pause while the country navigates the realities of social distancing.

In response, through the $10 million Distance Learning & Family Connections Fund, AT&T contributed $250,000 to support an innovative collaboration between MENTOR and iCouldBe, which joined forces to develop the Virtual Mentoring Portal. The portal allows mentors and youth to connect remotely and maintain their relationships while separated during the pandemic. Since March 2020, AT&T employees have provided more than 1000 hours of mentoring to youth across the nation using iCouldBe, CareerVillage and Nepris platforms.

AT&T’s donation supports the development and maintenance of the program, related trainings, and other resources to help mentors and mentees reach new heights.

Including this contribution, AT&T committed a total of $10 million to support families and educators during coronavirus school closures through the Distance Learning & Family Connections Fund. One of AT&T’s core values is to be there when people need them. Their response to the COVID-19 pandemic is rooted in that belief.

AT&T also committed an additional $10 million to create economic opportunities and foster upward mobility for Black and underserved communities who face long-standing social inequities and higher unemployment. The pandemic’s outsized impact on Black job candidates, coupled with current social unrest, highlights the need to address current barriers to economic success and upward mobility in Black and underserved communities. Key focus areas include workforce readiness and targeted local initiatives in addition to supporting black technology developers and entrepreneurs.

AT&T is proud to further advance its commitment to mentoring and development as a lead sponsor of the National Mentoring Summit.
