Volunteer Appreciation

The mentoring movement would not exist without the dedicated individuals who volunteer their time, expertise, and energy to make the world a better place for young people. Volunteers rarely expect anything in return for their service, but nevertheless, it is important that we take the time to show our gratitude – our work would not be possible without theirs.

How To Celebrate – Check out the ideas below for ways that your program can say thank you!

  • Encourage a leader in your organization to write a heartfelt thank you card.
  • Give out awards or certificates to the volunteers who really went above and beyond.
  • Shout out some of your volunteers in newsletters and on social media (is there a volunteer who started as a mentee and became a mentor because of that experience? Are there volunteers that go above and beyond what is expected of them?).
  • Find ways to spotlight select volunteers on your website (maybe call-out those who have been with your organization for a long time or those who have taken on a variety of roles within the organization).
  • Host a volunteer appreciation event.
  • Have program staff and mentees record a video, speaking to the impact your mentors have made.
