MENTOR has named a new leader who will guide the organization as it continues to increase opportunity for our nation’s young people – welcome our new CEO, Jermaine Myrie!

Jermaine is a highly accomplished and dedicated nonprofit leader who distinguished himself during a rigorous and inclusive search process among a nationwide pool of nearly 150 applicants with his unique background in education, business development, and external affairs. He has proven experience leading through change and a keen understanding of how cross-sector partnerships and community building at both the national and local levels can drive systemic change. He has experience driving innovation and leading through rapid growth in a manner that is nurturing, inclusive, and authentic to MENTOR’s culture and values.

A New York native and an active resident of the Greater Boston Community for more than 25 years, Jermaine comes to MENTOR after serving as the chief external affairs officer at uAspire, a national nonprofit with the mission of ensuring that all young people have the financial information and resources necessary to find an affordable path to and through college. He has also held leadership roles at Aetna Student Health, Johnson Controls, and Xerox Corporation. Jermaine began his career as a middle school English teacher in Boston, Massachusetts, an experience that allowed him to see firsthand the power that mentoring can have.

Over the past 30 years, thanks to the dedication and commitment of MENTOR staff, Affiliates, and donors, MENTOR has built a unified youth mentoring movement and established a proven track record of expanding the quality and quantity of mentoring relationships in our country. In particular, in the last 10 years, David Shapiro led the organization and movement to a place that no one could have imagined a decade ago – not only strong financially, but equally strong in reputation and influence.

The organization is confident that Jermaine will guide MENTOR into the next chapter while remaining true to the mission and ensuring that each and every member of the mentoring movement —youth, Affiliates, partners, donors, staff —are seen, heard, understood, and valued. Jermaine assumed his new role as CEO on April 24, 2023.

“Throughout this CEO search process, Jermaine’s passion, empathy, and humble confidence resonated deeply with the board and staff. His experience leading organizations through rapid growth in a manner that is nurturing, inclusive, and authentic to an organization’s culture and values will be a tremendous asset to MENTOR as we enter our next chapter.”

– Nancy Altobello, MENTOR Board Chair

“Jermaine’s authenticity, relationship-centered approach, strategic acumen, and unique blend of cross-sector experience makes him uniquely suited to build upon MENTOR’s existing momentum and drive our strategy forward to achieve greater impact, equity and growth within the mentoring field. We couldn’t be more excited to welcome him to the team.

– Tara Spann, Chief People & Strategy Officer, MENTOR

I am deeply honored to have the opportunity to lead MENTOR as it works to deepen its impact and partnerships across the country. As someone who has experienced the profound power of mentoring in my own life, I can’t wait to work with MENTOR and its partners to ensure more young people have access to the mentorship, support, and guidance they need to prosper.”
