
The 10th annual National Mentoring Summit will take place
January 29 – 31, 2020
at the Renaissance Washington, DC Downtown.
The National Mentoring Summit is the only national convening of youth mentoring professionals, researchers, MENTOR Affiliates, philanthropic investors, and government and civic leaders aimed at collectively strengthening and expanding quality mentoring relationships for young people across the country.

The 2020 National Mentoring Summit features more than 90 workshops that explore our annual theme, “Building Relationships, Advancing the Movement.” This year’s workshops offer a versatile array of prevalent topics such as mentoring immigrant youth, how to make programmatic changes based on research and data, collective impact in the mentoring field, and mentoring youth with mental health challenges. Workshop sessions showcase exemplary program models, collaborations, research, and innovations that have positive implications for strengthening the mentoring field. There will be three workshop sessions on Thursday, January 30 and two workshop sessions on Friday, January 31, 2020. The 2020 National Mentoring Summit will feature six tracks that highlight specific areas of interest! These tracks will enable attendees to easily register for workshops most applicable to a specific area of focus and will provide enhanced networking opportunities through cultivated experiences designed to connect to others in the same track. This year’s tracks are: Advocacy, Philanthropic Partnerships, Culturally Specific Practices, Research, Supporting the Mentoring Match, and Non-Profit Management. The National Mentoring Summit attracts presenters who are leaders in the field of mentoring. The Summit highlights the work of researchers, mentoring practitioners, corporate and philanthropic partners, and mentoring advocates.

Answer: Through the Summit Fellowship Program, MENTOR will be offering a limited number of professional development scholarships to mentoring practitioners who are making a deep impact in the field but are unable to attend the National Mentoring Summit due to financial barriers. Fellows will receive complimentary admission to the National Mentoring Summit, a $1,000 travel and accommodations stipend, and access to exclusive networking opportunities. Fellows are responsible for booking and managing their own travel and lodging and assume any additional costs that may be incurred. Approximately 10-15 Fellows will be selected pending funding for the Program. Applications open on August 1, 2019 and close on August 31, 2019.
Eligible applicants must be a full-time employee for a mentoring program that is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Organizations must be based in the United States, in operation for at least 3 years and have an annual mentoring program budget (not organization budget) of $150,000 or less. Prior to submission, applicants must submit a request for their organization to be listed in the Mentoring Connector if they aren’t listed already. Only one applicant per organization will be selected. Applicants will be notified if they have been selected by September 25, 2019. If you have additional questions, please contact Melissa English.

PHILANTHROPIC PARTNERSHIPS TRACK Each year, MENTOR invites the nation’s leading philanthropic investors and partners in youth mentoring and those interested in exploring the issue further to connect and learn with hundreds of mentoring practitioners, policy makers, researchers and community leaders. Through interactive workshops and exclusive track programming, participants engage in meaningful discussions, peer to peer networking and invaluable idea exchanges aimed at accelerating solutions to close the mentoring gap in our country.

Capitol Hill DayCapitol Hill Day (CHD) is a training and advocacy event that capitalizes on the energy and knowledge of hundreds of passionate leaders attending the 2020 National Mentoring Summit. CHD participants will meet with Senators and Representatives from their states about key bills and issues in Congress, as well as the mentoring efforts happening in their communities. This is a great way to advocate for the importance of mentoring, elevate the critical work happening in your community, and ensure that our movement receives funding and support. We strongly encourage all Summit attendees to participate in Capitol Hill Day.

We request that all Capitol Hill Day participants attend the Advocacy Workshop on Tuesday afternoon (2:00 – 5:00PM). At the Workshop, participants will learn and discuss advocacy strategies, strengthen understanding of federal policy priorities, and collaborate with colleagues to prepare for your meetings.

On January 29, 2020, MENTOR will convene leaders in the youth mentoring field at an invitation-only Excellence in Mentoring Awards Dinner to kick off the National Mentoring Summit. At this pre-Summit dinner hosted by our Board of Directors, we will honor champions of mentoring with the annual Excellence in Mentoring Awards focusing on four distinct categories: Corporate Leadership, Impactful Philanthropy, Lifetime Achievement, and Public Elevation.
